Fix open slots after a build
Find out why a slot stayed open, see suggestions, and fix it by changing a limit, a rule or the people needed.
- For owners
An open slot is a place where nobody could be placed without breaking a hard limit. The app shows what stands in the way.
Steps
- Open the Week tab. Open slots show in red and in the Open slots list, with a count in the summary.
- On the web, click the open slot. On the phone, tap it in Open slots.
- Read What is in the way (on the phone, Why it is open). For example, "2 people unavailable" or "1 person would miss the rest period".
- Check Suggestions (on the phone, a line such as "Marco can cover it"). Tap Assign to accept. The sheet also lists people who are free and qualified.
- Or fix the cause, then build the week again.
Typical causes and fixes
- Unavailable or on time off: talk to the person, or choose someone else.
- Rest period: lower the minimum rest only if your agreement allows it. See Rest and weekly hour defaults.
- Weekly hour or shift limit: raise it in Weekly limits.
- Not trained for this position: add the position to someone in the Team tab.
- A never-together rule blocks the pair: switch the rule off.
- Nobody offered the slot: ask for more availability. See Weekly availability.
- Too many people needed: reduce the number in People per shift.
Good to know
- A Quota gap means someone is below or above their set number of shifts for a type.
- You can publish with open slots and fill them later. The app warns you first.
- Employees can claim open shifts when swaps are on. See Open shifts.
