How to build a shift schedule that holds up
- 01
Start from needs, not names
Write how many people each shift needs first. Then place people.
- 02
Protect rest
Allow at least 11 hours between shifts (a default for the UK). Check closes followed by opens.
- 03
Share it early
Publish at least a week ahead so people can plan, and swaps happen before the day.
- 04
Keep a fair rotation
Spread weekends and evenings. People notice unfairness faster than long hours.
