Pick up an open shift
See free shifts you can take, claim one with a tap, and know how shifts become open.
- For employees
- For owners
An open shift is a shift in a published week with nobody on it. You can claim one if you are able to work it.
Employee steps
- Open the Open tab. The count shows how many are available.
- Each card shows the day, the shift, the position, and who offered it, if someone did.
- Tap I'll take it.
- The shift is yours and moves to your Shifts tab.
How a shift becomes open
- The builder could not fill the slot and the manager published with it open.
- The manager removed someone and left the slot open.
- A colleague offered a shift for a swap and the manager released it.
Good to know
- You only see shifts you are allowed to take: your position, no overlap, enough rest, within your weekly limits and not on approved time off.
- Claiming works for shifts that have not started.
- Claiming open shifts is part of the swaps feature. It needs the business to be on a paid plan or in its trial.
- You get a notification when a manager releases a swapped shift that you could take.
- If nothing shows, the tab says No open shifts.
For managers
- Open slots appear in your Open slots list. See Fix open slots.
- A claimed shift is added as a manual change, so a rebuild will not remove it.
