Bonuses, tips and deductions on pay
Add a bonus, tips, a reimbursement, a deduction or an advance to a person's pay estimate, with a note she can read.
- For owners
- For employees
Pay adjustments change what a person is owed for a period, on top of her hours. They appear as lines in the pay estimate, in the exports, and in My pay for the employee.
Steps
- Open the person's pay and press Add under Bonuses and deductions.
- Choose the kind: Bonus, Bonus (% of the period), Recurring bonus, Tips, Reimbursement, Deduction or Advance.
- Enter the amount (or the percent), the date and a note. A deduction and an advance always need a note.
- Save. The line is added to the pay estimate at once and the employee gets a notification that a line was added. The notification never shows the amount.
- To undo a line, press Remove and write why. Removals are kept in an audit trail.
Good to know
- Bonuses, percent bonuses, recurring bonuses, tips and deductions are part of gross pay. Reimbursements and advances are listed beside the benefits, settled outside the wage, and are not in gross.
- Deductions and advances count as negative. You always enter a positive number.
- A recurring bonus repeats every period or monthly (pro rata) until the date you choose.
- The owner can adjust anyone. A manager can adjust employees only.
- The note is read by the employee. Keep it short and polite, 200 characters at most.
- Pay adjustments need a plan with pay estimates. Pay figures are estimates, not payroll.
